Detecting and removing

Removing tramp metal from product streams cuts production downtime. Pieces of metal - nails, springs, washers, nuts, screws and other items - can stop or damage machines in sawmills, woodworking industries, mines, quarries and other process industries, as well as in the paper and waste paper recycling industries.

A broken tooth from an excavator/loader bucket in a mine or quarry, for example, can cause serious damage to a crusher. A nail in a piece of timber can shut down a saw bench in a sawmill while the blade is changed.

In the paper and waste paper recycling industries it is absolutely essential to keep hard metal objects out of the pulp or materials. Process machinery is sensitive and repairs costly, regardless of the effect on final product quality.

Production stops are irritating, even without consideration of the resulting waiting times, loss of production, waste of materials, damage to tools and downtime for tool changing.

Constant stops adversely affect staff motivation and efficiency. Correspondingly, uninterrupted production results in higher quality and lower costs.

A metal detector is worthwhile investment.

MeDetec AB manufactures and sells two types of metal detectors: the QSDM 104 and the QSDM 111, both of which are intended for stationary applications on conveyors.

The QSDM 104 is a simple and robust device that can detect pieces of metal of a size down to 2 % (or less) of the equivalent diameter of the search coil.

With MeDetec’s metal detector QSDM 111, the presence of unwanted metal objects like nails can be detected in e.g. a log.

QSDM 111 detects all kinds of metal and is especially well suited for applications where high detection sensitivity is required.
